Press Release

Date: June 16, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Washington, D.C.-- This week, Congresswoman Sylvia R. Garcia (TX-29) was selected to participate in the Financial Services Committee's Digital Assets Working Group. This group is intended to explore and evaluate policy issues related to digital assets, cryptocurrencies, stablecoins, and central bank digital currencies. Members of the working group will hold routine guest talks with subject matter experts to facilitate robust discussions on how digital assets are changing the financial landscape.

The working group is an important component in Congresswoman Garcia's efforts to integrate underbanked and disenfranchised individuals into the mainstream. As a member of the Artificial Intelligence Task Force, much of the Congresswoman's work on the Committee is focused on alleviating economic inequities caused by unequal access to banking products and technology.

"I'm very proud to be a part of this working group. I look forward to working with my colleagues to explore this exciting new frontier in financial technology," said Congresswoman Sylvia R. Garcia (TX-29). "This is an important step for us as we seek to bring disadvantaged Americans into the financial fray, and to help them build wealth."
