Washington, D.C. -- Today, Rep. Annie Kuster (NH-02), founder and co-chair of the Bipartisan Addiction and Mental Health Task Force, released the following statement on President Joe Biden's nomination of Dr. Rahul Gupta to lead the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP):

"The Office of National Drug Control Policy plays a critical role in our coordinated efforts to end the substance use crisis in New Hampshire and across the country, and the Office needs leadership with a deep understanding of the complexities and unique challenges of the addiction crisis.

"Dr. Rahul Gupta has experience on the front lines of the opioid crisis, and I believe that his perspective, background as a physician, and knowledge make him uniquely qualified to lead the ONDCP. I hope that the Senate will move quickly to confirm Dr. Gupta, and I look forward to working with him and my colleagues on the Bipartisan Addiction and Mental Health Task Force to expand access to treatment and prevention."

Rep. Kuster is a leading voice in Congress to end the addiction and mental health crises in America through evidence-based policies. She founded the Bipartisan Opioid Task Force in 2015, which is now the Bipartisan Addiction and Mental Health Task Force, and has long supported meaningful, comprehensive solutions to fund prevention efforts, expand access to addiction treatment, and support those who are in recovery. Earlier this year, she introduced comprehensive legislation to respond to the proliferation of synthetic opioids and provide a long-term solution to the constantly evolving addiction epidemic.
