Brown Announces More Than $45 Million to Improve Airports in Northeast Ohio

Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the United States Department of Transportation's (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has awarded 13 grants to city and county governments in northeast Ohio, totaling more than $45 million. The funds will be used to help make necessary repairs to airports and their critical infrastructure.

"Ohio airports are vital to supporting travel and commerce in the state," said Brown. "These investments will help to ensure the safety of Northeast Ohio airports for passengers for years to come."

DOT funds include:

$530,000 grant to the Western Reserve Port Authority to perform crack repair and joint filling on taxiways and runways at Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport.
$350,000 grant to Portage County Regional Airport Authority and Board of Commissioners to update an existing airport master plan study to reflect the future needs of the Portage County Airport.
$7,748,700 grant to Akron Canton Regional Airport Authority to acquire snow removal equipment, rehabilitate taxiways and aviation aprons, rehabilitate existing lighting systems, and perform sealing along sections of taxiway surface area at Akron-Canton Regional Airport.
$1,355,555 grant to City of Galion to maintain the structural integrity of a runway at Galion Municipal Airport.
$1,890,008 grant to City of Bucyrus to extend a runway and install replacement runway indicators at Port Bucyrus-Crawford County Airport; and a $32,000 grant to City of Bucyrus to provide economic relief funds for costs related to operations, personnel, cleaning, sanitization, janitorial services, debt service payments, and combating the spread of pathogens at Port Bucyrus-Crawford County Airport.
$413,560 grant to the Geauga County Airport Authority & Geauga County Commissioners to acquire land for a runway approach at Geauga County Airport.
$32,594,306 grant to City of Cleveland to provide economic relief funds for costs related to operations, personnel, cleaning, sanitization, janitorial services, debt service payments, and combating the spread of pathogens at Cleveland-Hopkins International Airport
$148,000 grant to City of Cleveland to provide economic relief funds for costs related to operations, personnel, cleaning, sanitization, janitorial services, debt service payments, and combating the spread of pathogens at Burke Lakefront Airport.
$148,000 grant to Cuyahoga County to provide economic relief funds for costs related to operations, personnel, cleaning, sanitization, janitorial services, debt service payments, and combating the spread of pathogens at Cuyahoga County Airport.
$22,000 grant to Ashtabula County Airport Authority to provide economic relief funds for costs related to operations, personnel, cleaning, sanitization, janitorial services, debt service payments, and combating the spread of pathogens at Northeast Ohio Regional Airport.
$32,000 grant to Williams County Regional Airport Authority to provide economic relief funds for costs related to operations, personnel, cleaning, sanitization, janitorial services, debt service payments, and combating the spread of pathogens at Williams County Airport.
$59,000 grant to Wayne County Commissioners to provide economic relief funds for costs related to operations, personnel, cleaning, sanitization, janitorial services, debt service payments, and combating the spread of pathogens at Wayne County Airport.
The FAA supports public-use airports included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS) through the Airport Improvement Program.
