Congressman Neguse Secures $240 Million for Low or No Emission Buses Through the House

This week, Congressman Joe Neguse secured $240 million for the Department of Transportation's Low or No Emission Vehicle Grant program to support low emission transportation as part of the FY2022 Appropriations legislation. This funding is a major increase (nearly double) in funding from last year. The Low or No Emission Grant Program provides funding to states and local government authorities for zero-emission and low-emission public transportation and supporting infrastructure. Several cities and counties across the 2nd District have benefited from the program in recent years. Fort Collins recently received $3 million dollars for Low and No Emission buses. In 2018 Eagle County Transportation Authority received $1.3 million, Breckenridge's "Electric Breck" plan received $1 million, and Estes Park received $403,266. In 2017, the Town of Vail and City of Boulder also received funding to replace diesel buses.

"Across the 2nd district, many of our cities and counties are setting ambitious local renewable energy goals, and the Low or No Emission grant program, and others like it, will ensure our communities are equipped to meet those goals and combat the climate crisis," said Congressman Neguse. "Cities across our district have benefited from this grant program in recent years and we're excited to increase funding for the program this year to ensure greater opportunity for localities across Colorado."

Congressman Neguse has been a major supporter of the Lo-No grant program since arriving in Congress. He secured a $50 million funding increase for the program in the FY2021 budget.
