Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Anthony G. Brown (MD-04) hosted a roundtable with parents, child care providers, and local officials to mark the beginning of the expanded Child Tax Credit and its importance to families in our communities.

Millions of American families will begin receiving monthly payments from the expanded Child Tax Credit as part of the American Rescue Plan. Families will receive $3,600 annually per child under six years old and $3,000 annually for children between the ages of six and 17.

About 1.1 million Maryland children are currently eligible for the monthly payments. And, 80.8% of children in Congressman Brown's district are expected to benefit from the expanded and improved Child Tax Credit -- approximately 139,300 children. The expanded and improved Child Tax Credit is expected to lift 52,000 Maryland children out of poverty, including 8,200 children in Congressman Brown's district.

"Children and families are our top priority as we continue our recovery. This money will help set America's children up for success and put more money in the pockets of hardworking parents to use for child care, summer programs, school supplies, food, rent, clothes, and other necessities," said Congressman Brown. "This is how we help families get back on their feet, fight poverty and truly build back better."
