WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to pass two amendments authored by Congressman Steven Horsford (D-NV-04) that would support improving access to child care for military families and strengthen training opportunities for National Guard troops. The amendments were passed as part of House consideration of H.R. 4502.

The amendments advocated for programmatic funding increases that would:

Provide $2 million in additional support for the construction of Child Development Centers at Air Force installations without existing, dedicated child care facilities.
Provide $5 million in additional support for the construction of automated multipurpose machine gun ranges for Army National Guard use on Active-Duty Air Force installations.
"Today's vote on my military funding amendments secures essential support to improve troop readiness and expand access to child care for military families," said Congressman Steven Horsford. "I'm proud that my position on the House Armed Services Committee gives me the opportunity to advocate for our brave servicemembers and their families, and I encourage the Senate to act quickly so this funding can be promptly signed into law."

Congressman Horsford's push for a programmatic increase in childcare funding reflects the importance of improved childcare infrastructure for military families in Nevada's Fourth Congressional District. Currently, child care is not available at Creech Air Force Base, forcing families to search for off-base child care, which can come at burdensome cost.

Congressman Horsford's amendment to support funding for automated multipurpose machine gun ranges reflects a top readiness priority of the Nevada Army National Guard. As the National Guard continues to play an important role in national defense, they must have access to the facilities needed to build and maintain combat readiness.
