Rep. Garbarino Holds First Telephone Townhall

Press Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Andrew Garbarino (R-NY) recently held his first telephone townhall during which he gave an update on his top priorities while working in Congress and answered questions directly from constituents. Over 3,000 constituents tuned in to listen and ask questions of Rep. Garbarino.

Highlights

During the townhall, Rep. Garbarino answered questions on many topics including:

Repealing the SALT cap: "I see how it affects the neighbors around me, I have heard how it affects you, it affects a lot of people. New York is a donor state to the federal government and by instituting this cap it hurt us even more. We should not be punished for providing great education to our children, for providing great local assistance, this deduction was on the books since the civil war, and it should not have been taken away and it is my number one priority that it be restored."

The crisis at the southern border: "When I went down [to the border], we met with farmers. They told us how much damage was being done to their crops, they are finding bags of cash, bags of drugs, the drug cartels completely control the border… we need to make sure that the border patrol is fully funded and fully staffed to make sure that they can stop the illegal crossings."

"The arrests of M13 gang members are up, the amount of drugs being brought in are up… We need to make sure the border control has the ability to do that job that they are tasked with doing and as of right now they don't."

Supporting law enforcement:"Down in congress, we need to make sure that national bills don't pass that would tie our police officer's hands behind their backs and their ability to do their job. We need to make sure that they have the proper funding for bulletproof vests, police vehicles, just to make sure that they can do their job."
