Press Release

Date: Sept. 8, 2021
Location: West Chicago, IL

Today, Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (IL-14) invited 14th District students to participate in the 2021 Congressional App Challenge. Launched in 2015, the competition is an exciting opportunity for middle and high school students to learn how to code by creating their own applications. The program highlights the importance of computer science and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education. This competition is open to all students with any level of coding background who reside or attend school in Illinois' 14th district.

"The Congressional App Challenge is an opportunity for young people to develop and share solutions to issues important to them, whether that solution has a local impact or addresses a national or global concern," says Rep. Lauren Underwood. "I invite interested middle and high school students in the 14th District to participate in this exciting opportunity and grow their STEM-related skills."

Interested students may register and submit their applications by November 1, 2021 at CongressionalAppChallenge.us. Winners will be chosen by judges drawn from the local community and the winning app will be eligible to be displayed in the U.S. Capitol building, on the U.S. House of Representatives website, and the Congressional App Challenge website.
