Press Release

Date: Sept. 9, 2021
Location: Gaithersburg, MD

GAITHERSBURG, MD -- Today U.S. Congressman David Trone (MD-06) hosted a roundtable to discuss his work to pass President Biden's Build Back Better Act, a transformational piece of legislation that will cut taxes for working families and reduce the cost of healthcare, education, and child care in America. The roundtable included experts and constituents who are working to improve healthcare, education and housing options for Marylanders.

"The Build Back Better Act makes life easier for the hard-working Americans who have had to make sacrifices just to survive this pandemic," said Congressman Trone. "It is unacceptable that families across the country are struggling to afford basic human necessities like health care, housing, and education. We live in the richest country in the world, and Americans deserve better."

Participants:

Lauren Moskowitz Lavelle, Representative, Montgomery County Education Association
Kayrine Brown, Acting Executive Director, Montgomery County Housing Opportunities Commission
Dr. Diane Romaine, DMD, MAGD, President of the Maryland State Dental Association Foundation
Steven Hicks, Assistant State Superintendent for the Division of Early Childhood
Marilyn Balcombe, President, Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber of Commerce
Susan Madden, Chief Government Relations Officer, Office of the President, Montgomery Community College
Trone and the participants discussed the priorities of the Build Back Better Act, which would help make early and higher education more affordable, increase access to affordable housing, and make paid family and medical leave a reality for every worker. The panelists each shared personal stories about how hard it is for working families to make it in America. Panelists also discussed how our most vulnerable communities have struggled to find housing and quality child care opportunities, especially during the pandemic.

Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Trone serves on the Appropriations, Veterans' Affairs, and Joint Economic Committees in the 117th Congress and previously served on the Education and Labor and Foreign Affairs Committees. In Congress, Trone is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders, including the mental health and addiction crises, criminal justice reform, and funding for medical research.
