Press Release

Date: Sept. 17, 2021
Location: Scottsdale, AZ

Today, Congressman David Schweikert (AZ-06) hosted a roundtable with leaders in the agriculture industry to discuss the ways that Congress and the Department of Agriculture can promote the awareness and opportunities biotechnology has in agriculture.
"We are continuing to see new technologies come to market that can provide efficient and cost-effective growth for our society. Today we were able to discuss the positive development of biotechnology already in practice across the state. It is important that we continue to promote technologies that will create solutions for changing climate and growing population," said Congressman Schweikert.
"Thank you to Congressman Schweikert for inviting me to join today's roundtable and explain the partnerships occurring across the state of Arizona to advance the agriculture industry. Agriculture in Arizona is a diverse, year-round, 23-billion-dollar industry, and advances in biotechnology will ensure we can continue to meet the needs of a growing population in a drier climate. I look forward to continuing today's conversation on ways Congress and the Department of Agriculture can work to support biotechnology in the agriculture industry," said Stefanie Smallhouse, President of Arizona Farm Bureau.
Participants joining the event included:
Stefanie Smallhouse, President of Arizona Farm Bureau
Dr. Shane C. Burgess, University of Arizona Vice President for the Division of Agriculture, Life and Veterinary Sciences, and Cooperative Extension
Paul Brierley, Executive Director of Yuma Center of Excellence for Desert Agriculture
Jeff Boydston, Value Chain Specialist at BASF
