Rep. Delgado Statement on Temporary Extension of Public Debt Limit

Press Release

Date: Oct. 21, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

This evening, U.S. Representative Antonio Delgado (NY-19) released the following statement after passing legislation to temporarily extend the public debt limit:

"This evening, I voted to temporarily extend the debt ceiling and prevent a default on our national debt. Yet again, this bill is a temporary stopgap. It's another 'kick the can down the road' DC provision that prevents the worst while achieving no meaningful progress.

If we default on our debt obligations, upstate families would stop receiving their Social Security benefits. Service members wouldn't get their paychecks. Seniors would lose their Medicare and Medicaid payments.

Enough of these political games. We must come together to safeguard our economy, families, and service members."
