Washington, D.C.- Congresswoman Jenniffer González Colón (R-PR at Large) released the following statement on the confirmation of Judge Gustavo Gelpí as United States Circuit Judge for the First Circuit:

"I congratulate Judge Gustavo Gelpí for being confirmed as United States Circuit Judge for the First Circuit, the second Latino and second Puerto Rican to be a member of that court. I have complete confidence in his ability and have no doubt that he will continue to exercise justice with dignity.

I am extremely proud of the recognition by the federal government and by my colleagues in the Senate of the caliber of this exceptional jurist from my district. His nomination had the overwhelming support of local leaders of all ideologies and numerous civic groups at the local and national level.

His career has been nationally recognized by both political parties, having been nominated by President George W. Bush and confirmed by the U.S. Senate in 2006 to be a District Judge on the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico, where he has served as Chief Judge since 2018; and for the second time receiving a presidential nomination, now by President Joseph Biden, and confirmed by the U.S. Senate now as United States Circuit Judge for the First Circuit.

I reaffirm my expressions that Judge Gustavo Gelpí, having extraordinary credentials, unquestionable credibility, and necessary rectitude, will fully comply with the demands and expectations as a judge in U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
