Congressman Cleaver Votes in Favor of Accountability For January 6th

Statement

Date: Oct. 21, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) released the following statement after the House of Representatives voted on a bipartisan basis to hold Stephen K. Bannon in criminal contempt for defying a congressional subpoena to appear before the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol.

"January 6th was one of the most disgraceful days in the history of our great nation--and the American people deserve a full account of what occurred, who was responsible, and how we can prevent such a tragedy from ever happening again. That's what the Select Committee is tasked with, and why I voted to support their efforts to get to the bottom of what transpired on that awful day.

"In the United States of America, no individual is above the law. Not me; not the President; and not Mr. Bannon. Those who aided the insurrection must, and will, be held accountable for their actions. Today's bipartisan vote in the House of Representatives was a critical step to ensure that occurs."
