Amodei Statement on the PUMP for Nursing Mothers Act

Statement

Date: Oct. 22, 2021
Issues: Women

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- U.S. Representative Mark Amodei (NV-02) today issued the following statement after his vote on H.R. 3110, the Providing Urgent Maternal Protections (PUMP) for Nursing Mothers Act:

"It is nice to see a bill on the House Floor that will contribute to a positive work environment for employees. The PUMP Act requires employers to provide working mothers with the time and space for pumping breast milk. The provisions in this bill are an important part of ensuring that nursing mothers have these protections at work, regardless of profession. I've heard the concerns about this bill opening the door for trial lawyers to target employers, but this law in large part mirrors Nevada state law (NRS 608.0193), which already requires employers to make reasonable accommodations for breastfeeding mothers."
