U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) announced today the Department of Transportation awarded $616,000 to the City of Frankfort to fund a roadway redevelopment plan. These funds are distributed as part of the Department of Transportation's competitive RAISE planning grant program.

The grant will be used to study upgrades for a two-mile, twenty-five-block section of Holmes Street in Frankfort. Planning will include community engagement, a traffic and safety analysis, a parking needs evaluation, and the development of new access management strategies.

Senator McConnell contacted the Department of Transportation in support of the City of Frankfort's grant application.

"Like many communities in Kentucky, the City of Frankfort is always looking for ways to upgrade its roadways to create a safer, more welcoming living environment that invites development. I was proud to work with Judge Wells, Mayor Wilkerson and other community leaders to support this RAISE grant application and help Frankfort design an upgrade to the Holmes Street corridor, fostering the jobs and small businesses our Commonwealth needs to thrive," said Senator McConnell. "Projects like this are a key part of my work in Washington and showcase the direct impact federal investment can have on Kentucky communities. I look forward to continuing to fight to ensure the Commonwealth receives its fair share of infrastructure spending."

"I appreciate Senator McConnell's hard work in helping our community acquire the Department of Transportation RAISE grant for the Holmes Street area. It is an important corridor into our historic downtown which could vitally use these improvements. I am excited to see this area is getting the serious attention it gravely needs. I thank the Senator for being a strong advocate for our Franklin County community," said Franklin County Judge-Executive Huston Wells.

"The Holmes Street corridor is a diverse neighborhood of residential, commercial and industrial property and is an important entrance into our city. The RAISE grant will help the City of Frankfort better connect the corridor to downtown, attract new investment, and improve conditions for vehicles, pedestrians, bicyclists, and existing businesses. We are excited for this opportunity and thank our Congressional delegation, especially Senator McConnell, for his leadership and support for this grant," said Frankfort Mayor Layne Wilkerson.

"We are pleased that the City of Frankfort was selected to receive the RAISE grant. The Holmes Street Corridor is a designated Opportunity Zone in Frankfort and this grant will allow us to plan how we can attract businesses, create jobs and improve safety and livability for residents in this key gateway to the city," said Frankfort City Manager Laura Hagg.
