Date: Dec. 8, 2021
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Energy

Congressman John Sarbanes (D-Md.) today applauded the Biden Administration's announcement that it will reduce emissions across federal operations and transition to renewable energy by 2050.

As the sponsor of the Federal Building Clean Jobs Act (H.R. 2060), a bill that would modernize federal facilities with cutting-edge retrofits, energy efficiency upgrades and innovative green engineering designs, Congressman Sarbanes has long advocated that reducing the federal government's carbon footprint will help our country lead by example in the fight against climate change.

"Today's announcement jumpstarts our clean energy economy," Congressman Sarbanes said. "Transitioning the federal government to renewable energy will create new jobs, save taxpayer money and make federal workplaces healthier, more resilient and more sustainable. As Congress and President Biden have worked to enact legislation that charts the path to our clean energy future, this announcement demonstrates we are ready to make the transformative changes necessary to tackle the climate crisis. I urge my Senate colleagues to build on this progress by passing the Build Back Better Act."
