KILDEE ANNOUNCES FEDERAL GRANT FOR SAGINAW HOUSING COMMISSION

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus, today announced $76,538 in new federal funding for the Saginaw Housing Commission to help local families find employment and achieve financial independence.
The $76,538 federal grant, through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Family Self Sufficiency (FSS) program, helps coordinate services for families, like child care, transportation, employment counseling, homeownership counseling and financial education, to help them reach their goals.
"I'm proud to support the Saginaw Housing Commission and its important work supporting local families to become more successful and self-sufficient," Congressman Kildee said. "In Congress, I will continue working to bring federal resources back to mid-Michigan."
"The Family Self-Sufficiency grant dollars are utilized to fund the FSS Program Coordinator to empower, encourage and assist FSS families in achieving self-sufficiency by providing a road map to changing their lives with an individualized five-year goal plan. The plan helps them move from where they are to where they want to be," said Lesley D. Foxx, Executive Director of the Saginaw Housing Commission. This funding was provided through the Consolidated Appropriations Act that Congressman Kildee supported. It was signed into law in December 2020. As of November 2021, the Saginaw Housing Commission's FSS program served over 40 families.
Congressman Kildee also supports funding to help Michigan families make informed decisions about housing and homeownership. In December 2020, Congressman Kildee led 50 Members of Congress in advocating for investments in HUD's Housing Counseling Assistance Program. This critical program works directly with families to assist them with housing challenges and empowers them to make informed financial decisions that increase homeownership and reduce foreclosures. Over 40,000 Michiganders received housing counseling assistance from July to September 2021.
