Hagedorn Rejects Democrats' Debt Limit Increase Measure

Statement

Date: Dec. 15, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Jim Hagedorn (MN-01) released the following statement rejecting a measure to raise the national debt ceiling by $2.5 trillion to pay for Biden's "Build Back Better Act," which is filled with Far-Left Socialist policies. The measure passed on a party line vote of 221-209.

"For months President Biden told the American people that his "Build Back Better Act" was paid for -- that was a blatant lie. The Congressional Budget Office found that this Socialist Spending Spree was going to cost $4.9 trillion and add over $3 trillion to the national debt.

"President Biden, Speaker Pelosi, and the Democrats just want a blank check to keep spending and growing the federal government. Today's stunt is designed to greenlight a debt limit increase in order to pass this massive spending boondoggle that will radically transform America into a socialist, one-party state. To be clear, this Far-Left package weaponizes the IRS, grants amnesty for illegal aliens, allows for taxpayer funded abortions, raises taxes on small businesses, and forces America to rely on OPEC, Russia, and China for energy resources. These policies will continue to fuel inflation, kill high-wage jobs, foster more government dependency, and put America Last.

"Democrats are clearly more concerned with pushing their radical agenda rather than addressing the litany of crises facing our country due to the Biden Administration's failed Leftist policies. Their agenda will only harm hard-working American families, undermine economic growth, and jeopardize our country's future. This is not Build Back Better; it's Build Back Broke."
