Rep. Ilhan Omar Statement on the Build Back Better Act

Statement

Date: Nov. 19, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) released the following statement after voting for the Build Back Better Act in the House.

"From the beginning of this process, progressives have put our votes on the line to deliver needed relief to our constituents in the Build Back Better Act, and today we got the opportunity to pass it out of the House.

"Minnesotans are facing the biggest housing affordability crisis in the country, a massive racial wealth and education gap, and a childcare affordability crisis. The Build Back Better Act is our opportunity to address this. Minnesotans spend an average of over $16,000 a year on childcare--as much as they spend on mortgage payments--and Build Back Better would address it. The Twin Cities has the worst housing shortage in the entire country--and Build Back Better would create a housing acquisition fund to address it. We need good union jobs, and Build Back Better would invest in a civilian climate corps, and home health care workers paying fair wages. My constituents need the Build Back Better Act, and they can't wait any longer.

"Now it is on the Senate to act. Promises have never been enough. We need a vote in the Senate to deliver these investments to the American people as quickly as possible."
