Burr, Tillis, & Budd Celebrate Major Economic Development Project at Greensboro-Randolph Megasite

Statement

Today, Sen. Richard Burr, Sen. Thom Tillis, Rep. Ted Budd, NC State Senator Dave Craven, and Randolph County Board of Commissioners Chair Darrell Frye, celebrated the announcement of a $1.29 billion initial megasite investment that will create more than 1,750 jobs.

Senator Burr said:

"More and more companies are seeing that North Carolina is a great place to do business. Over the last decade, we've seen exponential economic growth, job creation, and business development, benefiting longtime North Carolinians and those who come here for new opportunities. North Carolina's continued success is due to the work local, state, and federal leaders put in to make significant investments like this one a reality, and I'm proud to work with them on this effort."

Senator Tillis said:

"I'd like to welcome Toyota to North Carolina and thank the company for their significant investment in our state and commitment to bringing good-paying jobs to a region known as the Carolina Core. Today's announcement is another example of the teamwork necessary to bring an economic development project of this scale to North Carolina. I was proud to be a partner in this effort and applaud the local leaders, my Congressional colleagues, and the state representatives for their hard work to make this announcement possible."

Rep. Budd said in a statement:

"It's a great day for Randolph County and the state of North Carolina. I'm extremely proud to have partnered with both state and local officials as well as economic development organizations to get this project across the finish line. Since August, my team and I have toured the megasite, coordinated permitting with the Army Corps of Engineers, and been in direct contact with local officials as well as statewide leaders to advocate for this project. It's so exciting to welcome Toyota to our state."

NC Senator Craven said:

"After moving back to Randolph County in 2012, finding a major manufacturer for the Randolph Megasite has been a priority for me. Throughout my time serving on local and state economic boards, and in the Senate, I've made it clear that this site was our region's top economic development project. Over the past decade the Republican-led legislature has made North Carolina one of the best states to do business in. Our new state budget and today's announcement reflects that. It is my sincere hope that investments like the one Toyota is making will result in more folks like me deciding to move back to or relocate to Randolph County. These economic development projects prove that North Carolina is the best state to live, work, and raise a family in. Today is a tremendous day for Randolph County, the Piedmont Triad, and our great state."

Chairman Frye said:

"I want to personally thank Senator Richard Burr, Senator Thom Tillis, Congressman Ted Budd, and State Senator Dave Craven for their unwavering support and commitment to bringing Toyota to the Greensboro-Randolph Megasite. Their personal efforts were invaluable in navigating the process and working with the various Federal Agencies. I will also have to recognize the efforts of their staff for their professional help and knowledge of the issues and how to work through them. Their teams were always accessible day or night."
