Kuster Statement on Build Back Better Negotiations

Today, Representative Annie Kuster (NH-02) released the following statement after U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) announced he will not vote to advance the Build Back Better framework in the Senate. Sen. Manchin's comments come after months of negotiations to deliver transformative and overwhelmingly popular provisions for the American people, including investments to extend the Child Tax Credit, expand access to quality child care, reduce the cost of prescription drugs, and much more.

"When I speak with folks across New Hampshire, I hear about the real needs of Granite Staters -- from lower prescription drug prices and access to affordable child care to more good-paying jobs and tax relief for hardworking families. These are the priorities that I have been fighting for in the House of Representatives and was proud to pass as part of the Build Back Better framework.

"The framework includes forward-thinking provisions to bolster our economy, support our seniors, and invest in the well-being of our communities for generations to come. Policies like the refundable Child Tax Credit -- which has already delivered approximately $159 million in tax cuts to more than 66,000 Granite State families in New Hampshire's Second District -- and closing the Medicaid coverage gap to help up to 19,000 uninsured Granite Staters gain coverage and 23,900 save hundreds of dollars on coverage per year.

"There's so much at stake -- for our state, our country, and our future -- which is why this legislation is so critical. We cannot allow political posturing to get in the way of progress. Granite State students, parents, seniors, veterans, and health care workers are counting on us. I will continue working to deliver this package for the people of New Hampshire."
