Romney Joins Colleagues in Introducing Legislation to Prevent Settlement Payments for Illegal Immigrants

U.S. Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) joined Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) and 28 of his colleagues in introducing the Protect American Taxpayer Dollars from Illegal Immigration Act, legislation to prevent settlement payments for individuals who crossed the U.S. border illegally. Despite the crisis consuming our southern border, President Biden's Department of Justice reportedly considered settlement payments as high as $450,000 per person.

"Families across our country are struggling with the rising cost of food and gas," Senator Romney said. "Choosing to settle and give huge cash payments to people who cross our border illegally will only further incentivize illegal immigration and contribute to the crisis we already face at the southern border."
