Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI) this morning voted for H.R. 5376, the Build Back Better Act, a once-in-a-generation bill to create jobs, cut taxes, and lower costs for middle-class families in Rhode Island and across the country. This historic legislation has the potential to improve the lives of millions of Americans, and it is fully paid for by making corporations and the wealthiest Americans pay their fair share.

H.R. 5376 will:

Cut taxes for 35 million middle class families, including the families of 173,000 children in Rhode Island, through the expanded Biden Child Tax Credit;
Empower Medicare to negotiate lower prescription drug costs for seniors and put a stop to pharmaceutical companies raising the price of drugs beyond inflation;
Lower the cost of and improve access to high-quality health care for older Americans and Americans with disabilities and help elderly Americans better afford hearing care through expanded Medicare benefits;
Rein in the skyrocketing cost of child care, establish universal pre-school for all 3- and 4-year olds, and create a universal paid family and medical leave program;
Expand access to the Affordable Care Act, lower insurance premiums, and extend coverage to Americans living in states that have refused to expand Medicaid;
Cap the cost of insulin for Americans with diabetes at no more than $35 per month and limit out-of-pocket costs for seniors paying for drugs through Medicare Part D to $2,000;
Support major investments in affordable housing and lower the cost of post secondary education.

"Let there be no mistake about it -- the Build Back Better Act is going to dramatically improve the lives of every single Rhode Islander. Not since the days of President Lyndon B. Johnson and the Great Society has Congress passed such transformative legislation for the middle class," said Rep. Jim Langevin. "From health care to climate, childcare to education, and housing to jobs, the Build Back Better Act addresses so many of our nation's biggest challenges. President Biden and House Democrats promised Americans to Build Back Better from the COVID-19 pandemic, and today, we're one step closer to delivering on that pledge."
