Rose Rips Democrats' Tax-and-Spend Agenda

On Tuesday November 16th, U.S. Representative John Rose (TN-6) delivered a House Floor speech outlining concerns with the Biden administration's radical tax-and-spend agenda, which will result in increased federal spending and higher taxes for Tennesseans and their families.

The full speech, as prepared for delivery, is below:

Madame Speaker, I ask unanimous consent to address the House for one minute and to revise and extend my remarks.

Today, I stand here--in the People's House--entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring taxpayers' hard-earned dollars are spent appropriately and with the proper oversight in place.

Yet, this week, House Democrats are pushing to ram through their fatally flawed, partisan multi-trillion-dollar tax -and-spend package, which uses taxpayer dollars and billions of dollars in borrowed money to fund their ultra-liberal domestic spending priorities.

The gigantic $3.5 trillion bill was cut down to $1.75 trillion… which is still A LOT.

What's in the $1.75 trillion tax and spend spree?

-Amnesty for illegal immigrants.
-Billions for "Tree Equity."
-Tax hikes on job creators and working Americans.
-Universal child care.

And it doesn't end there.

The Democrats' package leaves out funding for the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security.

Democrats have gone so far as to break over 40 years of tradition by stripping the Hyde Amendment--a longstanding, bipartisan provision that prevents taxpayer dollars from being used to fund abortions--from their package.

Democrats' tax and spend spree will only defraud the American taxpayer through wasteful spending and stick middle-class families with higher taxes and lower wages.

My point is simple: I will advocate against controversial policies and proposed spending levels that short-change our national defense and irresponsibly provide huge increases to domestic spending.

The American people expect us to work out an agreement--it's our job. So, let's work collectively on a deal.

I yield back.
