Congresswoman Scanlon Announces $2.1 Billion for Pennsylvania Roads and Bridges from First Round of Highway Funding Under New Infrastructure Law

Today, Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon (PA-05) announced that Pennsylvania will receive $2,173,656,077 in new federal funding under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to create good-paying jobs for Pennsylvanians improving roads and bridges across the commonwealth. This is the first round of funding under the five years of federal investment in Pennsylvania highways authorized by the new bipartisan infrastructure law.

"Anyone who has been stuck in traffic -- or lost a battle with a pothole -- on the Schuylkill Expressway, the Blue Route, or I-95 knows how important this infrastructure bill is to our region," said Rep. Scanlon. "With new funding from the bipartisan infrastructure law, we're putting Pennsylvanians to work rebuilding roads and bridges in communities across the commonwealth. These federal dollars represent a strong first step toward strengthening our essential infrastructure -- and in turn, cutting down commute times, helping small businesses get goods to market, and keeping travelers safe on our roads. I was proud to vote for this historic legislation, which will make a tremendous difference in the lives of all Pennsylvanians, and I look forward to seeing more federal funding flow into our communities."

The American Society of Civil Engineers gave Pennsylvania a C- grade on its last Infrastructure Report Card, finding many deficiencies that require immediate attention. With this funding -- and more to come -- the bipartisan infrastructure law will create good-paying union jobs while strengthening Pennsylvania's crippled infrastructure.

The historic Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, signed into law by President Biden on November 15, secured new federal funding for highway and bridge repair for communities across the nation. The U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is providing $52.5 billion in funding to all 50 states and the District of Columbia -- representing an increase of more than 20% as compared to Fiscal Year 2021. The funds, administered by the Federal-aid Highway Program, can be used for construction, reconstruction, or improvement.
