Rep. Earl L. "Buddy" Carter (R-GA) led a virtual press conference today responding to President Biden's push for a federal election overhaul during a speech in Atlanta, Georgia.

Rep. Carter gave the following statement, as prepared for delivery:

"Let me make something clear.

"President Biden did not visit Georgia today to discuss "voting rights.'

"He did not, as his Administration so disparagingly put it, go into the belly of the beast of 'voter suppression.'

"He had a Democrat campaign rally in a State that is easier to vote in than his home State of Delaware or his Vice Presidents' home State of California.

"Stacey Abrams was right to stay as far away from this clown show as possible.

"The Election Integrity Act passed by the State of Georgia makes it easier to vote and harder to cheat! This is a strong piece of legislation that should be replicated in states across the Country.

"Instead, Washington Democrats are looking a little closer to home, attempting to subvert the will of the People and the Founders by implementing a radical federal overhaul of our election system.

"We've seen how this Administration handled the border, COVID-19, the economy, and Afghanistan. Pardon me if I don't trust them to successfully monitor free and fair elections.

"Washington Democrats are losing the trust of the American people. Rather than listening and being responsive to the People's needs, they are attempting to change the rules so that the Left can stay in power indefinitely. That is the single biggest threat to our Democracy right now, and that is what Biden shamelessly promoted this afternoon.

"If anyone was still on the fence about whether President Biden would govern as a moderate, today's address should have formally put that to rest.

"He has become the spokesperson for repealing the filibuster, a move so radical that several Members of his own party have refused to endorse this proposal. This might sound like a simple rule change, more Washington hullabaloo that doesn't impact anyone outside of the beltway.

"Unfortunately, that couldn't be further from the truth.

"By changing the rules to advance their agenda, this move would pave the way for voter suppression and election interference on a national level. We are talking about removing voter ID laws, which the majority of Americans agree with, giving your taxpayer dollars to candidates even if you do not support that candidate's political ideology, and brazenly defying our Constitution.

"Article 1 Section 4 Clause 1 reads, quote, 'The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof.'

"That's clear as day -- the federal government does not and should not have the authority to take control over elections.

"Unfortunately, the Left isn't just trying to subvert the Constitution; they're downright rejecting it. This week a liberal commentator in Politico wrote, quote "Democracy is the enemy of the constitution.'

"What a ridiculous, dangerous statement to make.

"Thanks to the hard work of Governor Kemp and other Georgia leaders in promoting the Election Integrity Act, Georgia is a harbor for free and fair elections.

"If Biden wasn't so blinded by partisanship, he'd recognize that."
