Fischer Statement on New CBO Analysis of Dems' Reckless Tax-and-Spending Spree

Statement

Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) today released the following statement after the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) shared a new analysis showing if programs within Democrats' "Build Back Better" proposal were made permanent, it would cost $4.9 trillion over the next ten years and increase the deficit by $3 trillion. The House of Representatives passed the "Build Back Better" proposal in November.

"First, the Biden administration and congressional Democrats tried to claim their reckless tax-and-spending spree would cost nothing. Then, they used budgetary tricks to claim the proposal was essentially paid for.

"Now, the CBO has finally confirmed what Republicans suspected for months. This liberal wish list, which includes cradle-to-grave government programs and tax breaks for coastal elites, will cost the public trillions of dollars if these programs are made permanent like Democrats want. It will also exacerbate already rampant inflation, which is a tax on American families. I will continue to strongly oppose the passage of this mammoth spending proposal."

The CBO report can be found here. Last Friday, year over year inflation rose to a 39-year high of 6.8%.
