Date: Jan. 26, 2022
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) today co-sponsored H.R. 336, the Transparent Representation Upholding Service and Trust (TRUST) in Congress Act. This bill would require Members of Congress, their spouses, and dependent children to place certain investments into blind trusts for the duration of their time in Congress and for a brief period following an end in their tenure. H.R. 336 was introduced in January 2021 by Reps. Abigail Spanberger (D-VA) and Chip Roy (R-TX).

Congressman Harris issued the following statement:

"This pandemic highlighted how "behind the scenes' information Members of Congress receive as part of their duties or from lobbyists may be used for their personal gain. The TRUST Act is long overdue and will thankfully address the unethical practice of misusing this information for financial benefit. While Speaker Pelosi may disagree with me, politicians should never profit from their offices and must be held to a higher ethical standard."
