Congressman John Sarbanes (D-Md.) today issued the following statement after joining President Biden for his remarks in support of restoring the Senate and passing the Freedom to Vote Act and John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act at the Atlanta University Center Consortium in Georgia.

"Our democracy is teetering on the edge, and it is up to Senate Democrats to be the force that pulls our democracy back to solid ground and restores the confidence of the American people. President Biden's remarks today are a declaration of faith in our democracy -- a declaration that the Senate should reinforce by taking action to ensure the chamber functions as it was intended to on behalf of our country. This is a moment of great opportunity to choose -- as the President said today -- democracy over autocracy, light over shadow, justice over injustice. It is time for the Senate to honor the power and purpose entrusted to them with a vote to protect the most important right of all Americans."
