Kaptur Calls for State Partnership Program to Deliver Humanitarian Aid to Ukraine

Press Release

Date: March 2, 2022
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) -- Co-Chair of the bipartisan Congressional Ukraine Caucus -- released the following statement calling on the Biden Administration to activate the joint U.S. Department of Defense-National Guard State Partnership Program to deliver humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

"Vladimir Putin's murderous rampage is indiscriminately killing innocent men, women, and children across Ukraine. While Ukraine's military valiantly defends its homeland, Ukraine's people are in need of food, clothing, and medical supplies that are rapidly depleting. The Department of Defense and National Guard units -- through the State Partnership Program -- have the expertise and capability to transport these resources to Europe safely and quickly. As the Free World rushes military assistance to Ukraine and sanctions Putin and his oligarchs, it is imperative that we also deliver the humanitarian aid that sustains and protects Ukrainian civilians. I call on the Biden Administration to activate the State Partnership Program so that the more than 20 states with partnerships in Europe -- including Ohio -- may mobilize and dispatch the resources to Ukraine that she so desperately needs."
