Congressman Pence Takes Action Against Russia, Calls On Biden To Renew American Energy Independence

Statement

Date: March 1, 2022
Location: Washington, DC

This week while in the nation's capital representing Hoosiers from Indiana's Sixth District, Congressman Greg Pence joined House Energy and Commerce Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) and House Committee on Natural Resources Ranking Member Bruce Westerman (R-AR) in introducing the American Energy Independence from Russia Act.

"It could not be more clear that our nation is strongest when we are energy independent. This difficult situation we face today is a direct result of Joe Biden's far-left agenda that shut down domestic energy production -- leaving us reliant on Russian oil imports." said Congressman Pence.

The legislation seeks to expand the United States' domestic energy production in response to the Ukraine-Russia crisis:

Require President Biden to submit an energy security plan to Congress within 30 days:
Evaluate U.S. oil and natural gas imports
Identify importing countries that pose an energy security risk to America
Encourage domestic production of oil and natural gas to offset imports from Russia
Immediately approve the Keystone XL pipeline:
Creates thousands of American jobs
Produce an additional 830,000 barrels per day of crude oil for U.S. refineries
Unleash U.S. LNG exports to boost U.S. natural gas production and displace Russian gas in the European market
Requiring the Secretary of Energy to develop a plan to increase oil and gas production on Federal lands to replace oil drawn down from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR).
Immediately reverse the Biden Administration's moratoria on leasing and permitting energy and minerals development on federal lands and waters.
