Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04) this week announced the addition of Captain Art Miller, who is serving as a legislative fellow in the D.C. office until the end of this year as part of the Department of Defense Legislative Fellow Program.

A field artillery officer by trade, Captain Miller received artillery training at the Fourth District of Oklahoma's own Fort Sill Fires Center of Excellence between January to June 2012. He is currently pursuing a master's degree in Legislative Affairs at George Washington University.

"I am delighted to welcome Captain Art Miller to my staff this year," said Congressman Cole. "His desire to serve his country wherever he is called is remarkable and inspiring. I look forward to having his unique perspective and valuable insight. I know he will contribute greatly to my entire team as we continue to serve the Fourth District of Oklahoma."

"I am honored to have the opportunity to represent the Army and work on behalf of Oklahoma's Fourth District with Representative Cole and his outstanding team," said Captain Miller. "I have many fond memories of Lawton and Fort Sill and look forward to the year ahead."

About the Fellowship

The Department of Defense Legislative Fellow Program is a highly competitive program for top performing select service members and civilian employees to provide them with an in-person legislative experience. The program is executed by the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Legislative Affairs, who coordinates with the military departments to determine office placement.

Chosen from numerous high performing applicants, fellows are vetted by their respective services, selecting those whom the departments feel would best represent the military to members of Congress and their staff. Eligible congressional offices are invited to apply for the program in August with a requested response in September and receive notification of selection November through December. Selected fellows begin their work in congressional offices for a period of no longer than one calendar year beginning each January.
