Tuberville, R. Scott Introduce Ban IRS Biometrics Act

U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) today joined Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) to introduce the Ban IRS Biometrics Act to ban the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) from requiring taxpayers to use facial recognition data to access accounts, refunds, and file taxes.

"Given the IRS's long history of data breaches and weaponization of taxpayer data, American taxpayers already have little trust in the agency," said Senator Tuberville. "So, asking Americans to provide even more sensitive data is not only an invasion of privacy, but it's also a security concern. This is another example of a big brother government proposal that would jeopardize Americans' sensitive personal information."

The bill takes action to protect American's privacy after recent reports that the IRS will require taxpayers to submit a facial ID scan to a third party. A series of security breaches from the IRS has raised privacy concerns from American taxpayers.

Other bill sponsors are Senators Josh Hawley (R-MO), Mike Braun (R-IN), Ted Cruz (R-TX), Joni Ernst (R-IA), and John Kennedy (R-LA).
