Fortenberry Statement on the State of the Union

Statement

Date: March 1, 2022
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Jeff Fortenberry (NE-01) made the following statement tonight after the State of the Union:

"Just like the barrier fence outside the Capitol, Americans feel fenced in by the State of the Union," Fortenberry said.

"An overrun border, skyrocketing inflation, and the aftereffects of the pandemic have left Americans bewildered and in search for an honest assessment beyond Washington rhetoric, more spending, and unrealistic wish lists.

"Russia's invasion of Ukraine has caused great fear of the unthinkable and a heartfelt solidarity with the Ukrainian people as properly acknowledged by President Biden. A key to restoring diplomatic strength is American energy independence. The President skipped the opportunity to seize this solution to rising gas prices and Russian aggression."
