Walberg Opposes Pelosi's Latest Attempt to Federalize Elections

Issues: Elections

Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) released the following statement after voting against the House amendment to the Senate amendment to H.R. 5746, a last-minute legislative shell game by Speaker Pelosi to carry out a federal takeover of elections.

"After failing to enact this partisan scheme last year, Speaker Pelosi released a 700-plus page bill overnight and is using a legislative gimmick to rush through a federal takeover of elections. Make no mistake: This divisive legislation is a sweeping power grab that will radically change election administration in all 50 states, imposing a one-size-fits-all system from Washington. The bill contains numerous problematic provisions that will weaken election security, disregard state voter ID laws, and direct taxpayer dollars to finance political campaigns. What's more, Democrats rejected a resolution aimed at ensuring non-citizens are removed from voter rolls and the rights of American citizens are protected. At a time when we need to restore confidence in our election process, a top-down federal takeover will do exactly the opposite."
