Daines: Biden Tapping into Oil Reserves Without Increasing American Energy Production is a Band-Aid on Bullet Wound

Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Energy

U.S. Senator Steve Daines today blasted President Biden for tapping into the Strategic Petroleum Reserve Fund without first taking steps to increase American energy production. This follows the introduction of Daines' bill earlier this year that would prohibit the Biden administration from tapping the SPR until oil and gas production on federal lands and waters is increased.

"President Biden has once again resorted to tapping into the nation's oil reserve to try and cover up the ramifications of his disastrous anti-American energy policies. These desperate moves are not the solution--investing in American energy production is, and that includes oil and gas," Daines said. "Biden needs to stop appeasing the woke green activists and get oil and gases leases going again."

In December 2021, Daines introduced a bill that would prohibit the Biden administration from tapping the Strategic Petroleum Reserve for reasons other than a severe energy supply interruption until the secretary of the Interior issues a plan to increase oil and gas production on federal lands and waters.
