Largest Oil Reserve Release in History Follows Pappas's Calls for Action

Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Oil and Gas

Following Congressman Chris Pappas's (NH-01) repeated calls on the Biden Administration to take action to lower energy prices for Granite Staters, including releasing barrels from the strategic petroleum reserve, the White House announced the largest release of oil reserves in American history to address rising costs at the gas pump.

"While this release of oil from our strategic reserve is good news for New Hampshire families dealing with rising energy prices, this action by President Biden should have been taken sooner as I had repeatedly called for him to do," said Congressman Pappas. "It is vital that we do all we can to address the spike in energy prices and lower costs for families. That's why I called for the release of strategic energy reserves in 2021, urged for more barrels to be released from the SPR, and called for a suspension of the federal gas tax to provide immediate relief to Granite Staters. This news today of the largest-ever release from the SPR will go a long way to lowering costs and stabilizing the energy markets, but more is needed, and I remain committed to using every available tool to help New Hampshire families."

Pappas has fought to bring down costs for Granite Staters amid spikes in energy prices and inflation. He has repeatedly called on the Biden Administration to release more barrels from U.S. oil strategic reserves, has pushed to suspend the federal gas tax to provide immediate relief at the gas pump, and called for home heating energy reserves to be tapped last year.

Pappas has also fought to lower the skyrocketing cost of prescription drugs and has advocated for extending the expanded Child Tax Credit, a middle-class tax cut for 77% of Granite State families, to put more money back in the pockets of First District residents.
