Tenney Hosts Webinar on Broadband Expansion with Guests from USDA

Press Release

Date: April 21, 2022
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-22) yesterday hosted a webinar on broadband expansion with expert guests from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The webinar highlighted federal grant and loan programs available to help underserved communities, such as rural areas across upstate New York, expand access to broadband.

Local officials from across New York's 22nd Congressional District joined the webinar to learn more about existing federal broadband programs. Participants also heard about Madison County's recent success in securing a $10.1 million rural broadband grant through the USDA's ReConnect Program, which provides loans and grants to cover the costs to construct, improve, or acquire facilities and equipment needed to provide broadband service in rural areas without sufficient, reliable internet access. In Madison County, this grant is being used to deploy a high-quality fiber network to 2,170 individuals, 30 businesses, and 50 farms.

More information about programs for broadband expansion can be found on the USDA's website here. Please note that USDA recently announced there will be another round of funding available for broadband programs this coming Fall. Applicants are encouraged to contact Tenney's Utica or Binghamton District Offices for letters of support. Tenney's Utica Office can be reached at 315-732-0713, and her Binghamton Office at 607-242-0200.
