Newhouse Denounces Biden Administration's Hypocritical and Destructive Border Policy

Statement

Today,Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) released the following statement after the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that it is extending COVID-19 vaccination requirements for essential workers entering the United States even as it plans to roll back Title 42.

"This announcement by the Biden Administration not only puts our food supply at risk but is completely hypocritical. Farmers and ranchers in Central Washington work hard day in and day out to provide food for America's families. By requiring legal, essential workers to be vaccinated with vaccines they do not have access to before entering the United States will only limit agriculture's ability to fulfil its primary goal: growing food. Even worse, without this essential workforce, crops could be left rotting in the fields. We already cannot find enough workers to meet our labor needs, further limiting the available workforce will only exacerbate existing supply chain issues as families face rising prices and fewer options at the grocery store.

At the same time the Biden Administration is decimating our workforce in the name of the pandemic, they are planning to roll back Title 42, which is one of the last measures we have in place to secure our nation's borders, because "the pandemic is over'. These nonsensical and hypocritical policy decisions are wreaking havoc on both our workforce and our border and have farmers and ranchers across the country wondering: if the Biden Administration is so concerned about the pandemic that they're blocking legal, essential workers from entering the country, then why is it acceptable to come into this country illegally and unvaccinated? It's time for the Biden Administration to make a decision: Is the pandemic over or not? Is this administration going to let our crops perish and Americans go hungry or not? Your move, President Biden."
