Capito Statement on Jackson Supreme Court Nomination

U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) today released the following statement regarding President Joe Biden's nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to serve as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States:

"Evaluating Supreme Court nominees is an important constitutional duty, and one that I take seriously as a U.S. Senator. Now that President Biden has selected Judge Jackson as his nominee for the Supreme Court vacancy, I plan to meet with her in-person and carefully consider her nomination according to her experience and ability to make unbiased decisions based on the text and original meaning of our Constitution."

BACKGROUND:

Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson was nominated by President Biden to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit in March 2021. Prior to this, former President Barack Obama nominated Judge Jackson for a district court judgeship in D.C., which she was confirmed to in 2013.
