Today, Congresswoman Kathy Manning (NC-06), Vice Chair of the Middle East, North Africa, and Global Counterterrorism Subcommittee of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the first Jewish federal representative elected from North Carolina, released the following statement commemorating Yom HaShoah, or Holocaust Memorial Day.

"Today, we commemorate Yom HaShoah and pause to remember the six million innocent Jews -- including more than one million children -- who perished during the Holocaust. They were murdered by the Nazis and Nazi collaborators while others stood by silently. The lessons learned during that dark chapter of human history weigh heavily on our hearts. As we honor the loved ones lost, we must commit to addressing the continued rise in antisemitism in the United States and around the World.

"I'm pleased by the confirmation of Dr. Deborah Listadt as Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism, but we can't stop there. Congress must ensure that Jewish Institutions can afford security enhancements by increasing the funding for nonprofit security grants. On this year's Yom HaShoah, let us rededicate ourselves to the meaning of "Never Again' by reaffirming our commitment to combating antisemitism, protecting Jewish institutions, and never repeating the mistakes of the past."
