Lamborn Supports Critical Defense Spending, Opposes Bloated Domestic Spending

Statement

Date: March 9, 2022
Location: Washignton, DC

Today, Washington Democrats brought a massive 2,700-page Fiscal Year 2022 omnibus spending bill to the House floor. The bill was separated into two parts: a bloated domestic spending package and a vital national security funding package that included critical assistance to Ukraine.

Congressman Lamborn issued the following statement:

"Nancy Pelosi's massive domestic spending wish list is out of control and does not address the needs of hard-working Americans. I could not in good conscience support the bloated domestic spending portions of the bill that spends money we do not have on things we do not need. The Democrats overloaded the domestic policy portions with over $4 billion in earmarks and pork projects, added radical green energy subsidies, and increased the annual budget for the Internal Revenue Service by a whopping $12.6 billion, so they can further scrutinize taxpayers."

"On the other hand, the national security funding in this bill addresses some of the most vital needs of our military. Because of this, I supported the defense portion of this bill to ensure our military has what they need to defend our nation. The defense and national security portions of the bill included a 2.7% pay raise for our men and women in uniform, countered Chinese and Russian aggression, continued funding for Iron Dome, and provided critical military, economic, and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine. It also provided additional funding for the Department of Homeland Security to address our ongoing border crisis and prevented the Biden Administration from canceling existing border wall funding."

"The American people need relief from soaring inflation and rising energy prices that are increasingly threatening their financial futures. But, instead of focusing their priorities on the needs of the American people, Democrats have doubled down on their far-left agenda and will continue to add to our $30 trillion national debt with their reckless domestic policies."
