Location: Washington, DC

Last week, Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernández, participated in the House Administration Subcommittee on Elections hearing about Voting in America: Ensuring Free and Fair Access to the Ballot in Texas.

Restrictive voting laws, including SB 1 in Texas, create barriers to fair elections. Rep. Leger Fernández has participated in several hearings and meetings regarding voting rights and election security in America. As mis-and-disinformation continues to spread it is important to prioritize voter security.

"It is our constitutional duty to uphold and safeguard our federal elections and protect our democracy, which is the foundation of our nation. The witnesses at our hearing illuminated how laws like SB 1 restrict access to the ballot especially for people of color. and undermine that foundation," said Leger Fernández."These insidious laws show how important it is that the Senate pass the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act to make sure our federal elections are open and fair, for all voters."
