Today, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement on the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) March 2022 jobs report:

"Our nation's hiring spree continues, with March marking the 11th straight month with over 400,000 jobs added back. Over 90 percent of American jobs lost to the pandemic during the Trump Administration have been recovered, and the unemployment rate dropped to the lowest level since the pandemic began. The health and pace of our recovery is extraordinary, and that is a tribute to President Biden and his work with Congress on behalf of American workers. His visionary leadership and partnership on the American Rescue Plan deployed vaccines fast, stabilized American businesses, supported parents, and allowed workers to return to the workplace safely.

"Even amid uncertainty with Russia's unconscionable war on Ukraine, the resilience of our economy is crystal clear. With investments from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law already leading to increases in construction jobs and the America COMPETES Act on the horizon, President Biden and congressional Democrats are leading the way to a historically strong, inclusive economy.

"Today's report shows exactly why you don't bet against Americans. Workers and their families weathered the pandemic's unprecedented economic and health challenges, and their determination pushed employers to be better. With wages rising and unemployment for women ticking down, Americans are making clear that they won't settle for pre-pandemic standards. The Ways and Means Committee is committed to building on this great success by creating the most inclusive labor force this country has ever seen, and that means finally delivering on affordable child care and universal paid leave."
