Sen. Cramer: Army Corps Work Plan Allocates $159 Million for North Dakota Water Resource Projects, Maintenance

Press Release

Date: May 26, 2022
Location: Washington, DC

Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND), member of the Senate Armed Services and Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committees, announced the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' (Army Corps) Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 work plan allocated $159,239,000 for North Dakota water resource projects, operations, and maintenance.

The FY22 work plan includes:

$136.5 million to complete construction of the Pipestem Dam safety modification project
$1 million for the Wilton Street and Utility Improvement Project under Army Corps' Section 594 Program
Senator Cramer helped craft the Water Resources Development Act of 2022, which passed unanimously out of the EPW Committee earlier this month. Senator Cramer, who holds jurisdiction over the Army Corps as the EPW Subcommittee ranking member on Transportation and Infrastructure, secured an authorized funding increase for the Army Corps' Section 594 Program within the legislation to further assist communities with their water infrastructure needs. The bill also allows Army Corps' recreation sites to retain 80% of fees collected for the operation and maintenance at that site, among other North Dakota priorities.
