Pelosi Statement on Passage of the Keeping Kids Fed Act

Statement

Date: June 24, 2022
Location: Washington, DC

Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after the House passed the Keeping Kids Fed Act, which will now be sent to President Biden to become law:

"Today, the Congress honored a fundamental truth: that no child in America should have to go to bed hungry. In passing the Keeping Kids Fed Act, our nation takes a major bipartisan, bicameral step to ensure our children will get the healthy school meals they need.

"When the virus struck two years ago, millions of children across the nation were left wondering where their next meal would come from. That is why our pandemic relief legislation secured new flexibilities for school meal programs, making it easier for schools to serve nutritious meals to children in need. Our action today staves off a dangerous hunger cliff: ensuring universal free meals for all children throughout this summer, while helping schools keep up supply chain snags and rising costs for the upcoming school year.

"On behalf of the House, thank you to Chairs Bobby Scott, Rosa DeLauro and Jim McGovern for their relentless, determined leadership in achieving this resounding victory For The Children. It is with great pride that the Democratic Congress will now send this legislation to President Biden's desk for his signature."
