Rep. Clyde Rejects Democrats' Radical and Reckless Spending Package

Statement

Today, Congressman Andrew Clyde (GA-09) released the following statement after voting against the 2,741-page, $1.5 trillion government funding package last night.

"As Americans struggle to afford gas and groceries, House Democrats rammed through a bloated $1.5 trillion government spending bill -- over five months into the new fiscal year -- that will undoubtedly worsen President Biden's hyperinflation crisis and contribute to our ballooning national debt. Chock-full of wasteful spending and a return to earmarks under their new designation "member-directed spending,' it's no wonder this government funding package was unveiled as Americans were sleeping and passed under the cloak of darkness.

"While this legislation does include some helpful funding measures, I cannot turn a blind eye to the glaring hypocrisies that consume this bill. For example, supporting Ukraine is incredibly important at this time, but it is ridiculous that this funding bill prioritizes the security of the borders of eight foreign countries while doing nothing to address the completion of our wall at the southern border. Simply put, it is illogical and irresponsible to further burden hardworking Americans and future generations in order to reward government agencies that routinely choose to prioritize the Left's radical agenda and the needs of other nations over the necessities of our own people. I refuse to agree to the frivolous waste of the American people's hard-earned tax dollars and abandon fiscal responsibility, which is why I resolutely voted "NO' on the Democrats' massive spending package."
