Congressman David Scott Votes to Expand Support for Mothers and Infants by Improving Families' Access to Baby Formula

Congressman David Scott (GA-13), chairman of the House Agriculture Committee, this week voted to pass two pieces of legislation, H.R. 7790, the supplemental funding bill, and H.R. 7791, the Access to Baby Formula Act, aimed towards improving American families' access to infant formula.

"This week, Congress took a critical step towards securing $28 million in emergency funding, as well as flexibilities for WIC benefits so that our hardworking families can access essential baby formula," stated Congressman David Scott. "I applaud my colleagues from both sides of the aisle for taking this necessary action for American families. I look forward to the swift consideration of these bills in the Senate, and to President Biden and his administration signing this support into law as quickly as possible."

H.R. 7790, the supplemental funding bill, provides the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) critical resources to address recent shortages, increase the number of FDA inspection staff, and provide support for personnel working to ameliorate the shortage and stop fraudulent baby formula from entering the marketplace, as well as improve the data collection and transparency from the industry.

H.R. 7791, the Access to Baby Formula Act, will work to support those who use Special Supplemental Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) to purchase formula and other essential supplies.
