Rep. Calvert Votes Against Funding to Grow Bureaucracy

Statement

Yesterday, Congressman Ken Calvert (CA-42) voted against the Infant Formula Supplemental Appropriations Act (H.R. 7790):

"I stand ready to work with my colleagues on a bipartisan basis to meaningfully address the infant formula shortage in our country but spending $28 million to hire more bureaucrats is not the answer," said Rep. Calvert. "This legislation does nothing to put formula on grocery store shelves. Specifically, until the Abbott plant can get back online, we need to augment supply by temporarily eliminating barriers to importing formula from trusted partners, such as Canada and our European friends. In the long-term, we need to better understand why this happened and ensure that market demand signals are not being distorted by government intervention. I'm disappointed that this unserious legislation was House Democrats' answer to a very serious problem. Congress must focus on solutions that boost supplies today and prevent this from happening in the future, not spending more money to grow the federal bureaucracy. The spectacular incompetence of the Democrat majority and President Biden are failing American families."
