Heinrich, Luján Welcome More Than $2.8 Million In USDA Funds To Improve Water Infrastructure In Doña Ana

U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) are welcoming more than $2.8 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to improve wastewater systems in Doña Ana County.

"Upgrading and maintaining our wastewater treatment infrastructure is critical to ensure that all New Mexicans have access to safe drinking water," said Heinrich. "Quality water and waste disposal systems are integral to both public health and economic prosperity. I am proud that this major federal investment will improve critical wastewater infrastructure projects in Mesquite and Brazito."

"Water is a vital resource in New Mexico and it's critical that our state's wastewater infrastructure functions properly and efficiently," said Luján. "I'm glad this robust investment will renovate existing wastewater systems in Doña Ana County to ensure their communities have access to safe, clean drinking water."

This Rural Development investment from the USDA will support improvements to the combined wastewater system in the communities of Mesquite and Brazito in southern Doña Ana County. The project will modernize local water infrastructure by replacing distribution lines and updating lift stations. These upgrades will substantially reduce operating costs while remedying a previously identified health and sanitation issue.
